Authorities in Hong Kong confirmed the arrest of a passenger on Friday (Dec 12) following a serious mid-air incident aboard a Cathay Pacific flight from Boston.
The airline, Cathay Pacific, reported that a passenger on flight CX811 (Airbus A350-1000 reg. B-LXL) attempted to open an aircraft door while en route to Hong Kong on December 10. The quick action of the cabin crew ensured the safety of the flight.
“Our cabin crew immediately attended to the situation, inspected the door to ensure it was securely closed, and reported the incident to the relevant authorities and the police,” Cathay Pacific stated.
The flight landed safely early Thursday, with the carrier confirming no injuries to any passengers or crew members.
Hong Kong police identified the arrested individual as a 20-year-old male from mainland China. He was detained early Thursday morning on suspicion of violating the Aviation Security Ordinance. The case has since been handed over to the police force for a full investigation.
