Cathay launches “80 Years Together” celebrations with Heritage A350 livery

Share

Cathay has officially kicked off its 80th anniversary celebrations, marking eight decades of operations since its founding in 1946, with a year-long programme of events under the theme “80 Years Together.” The milestone commemorates Cathay’s long-standing role in connecting Hong Kong with the world and supporting the city’s development as a global aviation hub.

The anniversary year was launched on 6 January 2026 with the unveiling of a special aircraft livery applied to a long-haul Airbus A350. The design revives Cathay’s iconic green-and-white “lettuce leaf sandwich” scheme, combined with an 80th anniversary emblem. The heritage-inspired livery pays tribute to the airline’s legacy while signalling its continued evolution. A second aircraft, a Boeing 747 freighter, will receive a similar commemorative livery in the coming weeks.

Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam said the anniversary represents both a celebration of the airline’s history and its enduring partnership with Hong Kong. He highlighted Cathay’s role in supporting travel, trade and critical logistics through generations, from the Kai Tak era to today’s Chek Lap Kok hub. Looking ahead, Lam reaffirmed the group’s commitment to investing more than HK$100 billion in fleet renewal, cabin products, lounges and digital innovation, as part of its ambition to become customers’ most loved service brand.

As part of the celebrations, cabin crew and ground staff will showcase vintage uniforms from different eras throughout 2026, bringing Cathay’s brand evolution to life. The airline will also introduce a curated range of anniversary merchandise inspired by historic liveries and design elements.

Further initiatives and events will be announced during the year as Cathay celebrates its 80th anniversary alongside the city it calls home.
