The Cathay Group recorded continued year-on-year growth in both passenger and cargo operations in September 2025, carrying over 2.7 million passengers — a 20% increase compared with September 2024 — and more than 130,000 tonnes of cargo, slightly above last year’s level.
Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau noted that while September is typically a quieter travel month, strong demand persisted, particularly from outbound student travel to the UK, Japan routes, and premium cabin travel linked to major events in Hong Kong, Milan, and Paris. The premium cabin load factor reached its highest level so far in 2025.
Cathay Pacific boosted capacity by 20% year-on-year and plans to expand its Chinese Mainland network to 24 destinations with a new Hong Kong–Changsha service launching on 4 November 2025, alongside increased frequencies to Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Shanghai.
Cathay Cargo reported a 1% rise in tonnage and a 4% increase in capacity, despite typhoon disruptions. Growth was driven by high-tech exports from Mainland China and Southeast Asia and strong demand for machinery and dangerous goods shipments. A seasonal freighter service to Madrid has also been added for the peak season.
HK Express carried around 530,000 passengers, up 16% year-on-year, with improving demand toward the National Day holiday period.
Looking ahead, Cathay expects strong Christmas and year-end travel demand and plans to add more flights and destinations to enhance global connectivity.
