Brussels Airport welcomed the first flight of Scottish airline Loganair today, 25 March 2019. The airline is flying twice per day from Newcastle to Brussels.
The route is being operated by Embraer ERJ-135 between North England and Brussels and is not totally new.
flybmi (also known as bmi Regional) was already flying from Newcastle to Brussels, but ceased operations on 16 February 2019. Its demise was due to uncertainty for the airline’s future after Brexit.
Its sister airline Loganair took over a few of its routes, including Newcastle – Brussels.
This weekend, Loganair took delivery of four ERJ135s, serials 145376, 145494, 145142 and 145136, transferred from bmi Regional.
In the past, Loganair also wanted to link Glasgow to Brussels, but there is no update at this time.
To celebrate the arrival of the new airline in Brussels, passengers and crew members were treated to some delicious Belgian chocolates.
Loganair has also commenced operations between Glasgow and Germany for the first time with the launch of the airline’s inaugural service to Dusseldorf.
Initially scheduled to begin on March 31, the daily service was brought forward by one week following encouraging advanced bookings.
Loganair also launched flights from Newcastle to Stavanger in Norway on this 25 March, a route taken over from flybmi.
