Brussels Airlines stops its route to Belfast in Northern Ireland only one year after its launch. “The flights attracted fewer passengers than expected,” according to Geert Sciot, spokesman for the airline.

The flights will be stopped at the end of the winter season (end-March). “We want to use our fleet as efficiently as possible. There are several other destinations with more potential,” said the spokesman.

In recent months, Brussels Airlines has opened several new routes and also wants to increase the frequency of flights to countries like Portugal or Poland.

The route to Belfast George Best City Airport (one of the two airports of the city) was operated 5 times weekly in codeshare with bmi regional, with Avro RJ100 aircraft, a type of aeroplane that Brussels Airlines will phase out by the end of 2017.
