Belgium became the European Union’s third-largest air freight market in 2025, handling just over 2 million tonnes of cargo and mail, a 13% increase compared with 2024, according to Statbel. Only Germany (4.8 million tonnes) and France (2.2 million tonnes) processed more air freight, while Belgium outperformed the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy. The country’s strong performance was driven primarily by cargo operations at Liege Airport and Brucargo at Brussels Airport.
Belgium also recorded a new milestone in passenger traffic, with more than 36 million travellers using its airports in 2025, up 3.6% from the previous year. The total surpassed the pre-pandemic record of 35.5 million passengers set in 2019, placing Belgium 12th among European countries for air passenger traffic.
