Avelo Airlines today announced that it will conclude its participation in U.S. Department of Homeland Security charter flight operations, the so-called deportation flights. This change will take effect following the planned closure of Avelo’s base at Phoenix–Mesa Gateway Airport on January 27, 2026.
“The decision reflects a strategic shift to focus exclusively on Avelo’s core commercial passenger service and long-term network growth. While the DHS charter program provided incremental revenue, it also introduced operational complexity that no longer aligns with the airline’s priorities,” the airline said, adding that: “Avelo remains committed to providing safe, reliable, and affordable air travel to its customers and will continue expanding service in markets aligned with its mission and values.”
