An Atlas Air Cargo Boeing 747 (N477MC) that took off at Liège airport this afternoon for Tel Aviv had to return to the airport after one of the engines stalled.
Neighbours around the airport saw flames coming out of 1 of the engines, the pilot swiftly reacted and turned back to the airport for a precautionary landing. The reason for the engine failure is currently not known. Christian Delcourt, Liège Airport spokesman thinks about possible FOD (foreign object damage) like for example a bird strike in the engine. On Facebook Frédéric Damoiseaux explains that the engine didn’t actually cought fire but encountered compressor-stall.
