On 23 February shortly before 12:45, an Atlas Air Inc. Boeing 767-300ERF cargo (N1217A) crashed into Trinity Bay near Anahuac, Texas. The aircraft operated flight 5Y3591 between Miami and Houston. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) indicated three people were on board.
The Boeing 767 appeared to be flying for Amazon Prime Air, the company’s cargo airline, according to Flightradar24. The flight lost radar and radio contact about 30 miles southeast of its destination, Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it was sending a team to investigate at the scene.
Boeing issued a statement on Twitter saying it was aware of the crash and “gathering more information.”
The aircraft involved was MSN 25865. It was delivered new to Canadian Airlines in 1992 as C-GCAW and flew for several other airlines (China Southern Airlines, LAN Chile, LAN Argentina) before joining Atlas Air’s fleet in 2016.
Boeing is aware of media reports of a 767 freighter accident in Texas and is gathering more information.
