Antonov An-124-100 suffers engine failure during take-off at Ostend-Bruges Airport, Belgium

On November 26, 2019, surge of the second engine of the AN-124-100-150 (UR-82072) of Antonov Airlines occurred. The aircraft was running with speed of 200 km/h at Ostend airport, Belgium. The take off was aborted. The aircraft stopped within the runway borders and taxed to the parking place.

ANTONOV COMPANY officially informs that any defect or destruction have not been found by the technical crew during inspection of the aircraft and engine.

To honour the obligations to the customer, Antonov Airlines provided other AN-124 ruslan for the cargo transportation.

The airport authorities closed down the runway as a precaution and a TUI fly Belgium Embraer 190 (OO-TEA) coming in from Alicante, Spain was forced to divert to nearby Brussels Airport.

The aircraft previously operated a flight from Leipzig, Germany.

  1. Irrespective of the mechanical incident, I wonder what cargo is in the belly of that russian-made aircraft flying to Afghanistan…!!
