On 24 May 2025, All Nippon Airways Flight NH114, operating from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, was diverted to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after a passenger attempted to open two of the aircraft’s exit doors mid-flight. The flight was operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registration JA934A.
According to the FBI and the Port of Seattle, the passenger was restrained by crew members and fellow travelers before being taken into custody upon landing. The individual was later transported to a hospital for medical evaluation. The aircraft had been airborne for approximately 10 hours when it landed in Seattle around 4:00 a.m. local time. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew.
In a separate and unrelated incident, another passenger became unruly on the tarmac in Seattle, reportedly punching a lavatory door out of frustration over the delay. This second individual was removed from the aircraft without further issue. After a brief delay, Flight NH114 continued on to Houston, arriving safely shortly before 1:00 p.m. local time. No charges have been filed in connection with either incident, according to the FBI.
