A passenger died after suffering a medical emergency aboard an American Airlines flight from Miami to Rome, according to aviation news website AIRLIVE.

Flight AA52, operated by Boeing 777-200ER N755AN, departed Miami approximately one hour late on 26 August. The medical emergency reportedly occurred during the aircraft’s descent towards Rome Fiumicino the following morning.

Cabin crew called for medical assistance, and five doctors travelling on the flight reportedly attempted to resuscitate the male passenger. The pilots declared an emergency and selected transponder code 7700, allowing the aircraft to receive priority handling from air traffic control.

The Boeing landed safely on Fiumicino’s Runway 16R at approximately 11:30 local time on 27 August, with emergency medical personnel waiting to meet it.

Despite the intervention by the doctors aboard and medical teams after landing, the passenger was reportedly pronounced dead.

Neither American Airlines nor the Italian authorities appear to have issued a public statement confirming the circumstances. The details regarding the five doctors and the passenger’s death should therefore be attributed to AIRLIVE and the social-media source cited in its report.
