American Airlines is prepared to soar into its biggest summer ever, with over 715,000 flights scheduled between May 16 and September 2—nearly five flights every minute. The airline is ramping up operations across its hub airports and rolling out new tech tools and customer experience enhancements to ensure a smoother journey for millions of travellers.
American is trialling a new in-house tech system at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) that identifies departing flights with tight connections and can propose short delays to help customers make their flights, without disrupting the overall schedule. The tool, soon expanding to Charlotte (CLT) and other hubs, is designed to reduce missed connections and stress for travellers.
The summer schedule includes nearly 5% more flights than last year, with 20% more departures from Chicago (ORD). Memorial Day weekend alone will see nearly 38,000 flights, and July 6 is set to be the busiest day of the season with 6,800 flights.
Boarding improvements: More time for boarding domestic flights makes for a more relaxed experience.
Tech enhancements: A redesigned app and expedited international transit.
Premium upgrades: New Flagship Suite® seats debut on the latest Boeing 787-9, and a new Flagship® Lounge opens in Philadelphia (PHL).
Enhanced customs processing: At major hubs, Enhanced Primary Processing (EPP) is slashing wait times for non-Global Entry travellers.
50+ million bags expected to be checked, backed by American’s best-ever baggage handling performance.
240 million beverages and 55 million Biscoff® cookie packs to be served in-flight.
Top destinations using AAdvantage® miles: London, Orlando, and Boston.
Free Wi-Fi for all AAdvantage® members is coming in 2026, but this summer, American still leads with the most high-speed satellite Wi-Fi–equipped aircraft globally.
With more flights, smarter tech, and thoughtful touches, American Airlines aims to deliver a seamless, premium travel experience to more customers than ever this summer.
