Embraer has delivered the first E175 equipped with RECARO R2 passenger seats to American Airlines, introducing a cabin upgrade intended to improve comfort and provide greater consistency across the carrier’s fleet.
Announced on 19 October, the delivery makes American the first US airline to introduce RECARO seating on the E175, according to the companies. The seats are expected to enter passenger service this autumn.
Designed for short- and medium-haul flights, the R2 features a tablet holder, a six-way adjustable headrest and a slim backrest intended to increase personal space and knee clearance. American’s version includes customised upholstery matching the aircraft’s new interior finishes.
RECARO said the seat’s pre-certification status and its ability to meet American’s entry-into-service timetable were factors in its selection. Neither announcement specified the number of aircraft covered or a retrofit programme for existing E175s.
The seating forms part of Embraer’s continuing investment in the E175, with cabin improvements intended to bring the passenger experience closer to its newer E2 family. The manufacturer also highlighted enhanced data connectivity and next-generation weather radar among developments for the platform, although it did not specify whether these systems were fitted to the aircraft delivered to American.
