American Airlines unveils retro-inspired Flagship livery ahead of 100th anniversary

Share

Fort Worth, Texas – October 2025 – American Airlines is marking the countdown to its 100th anniversary with a special Flagship® livery that will debut next month on a Boeing 777-300ER (registration N735AT). The new design blends classic heritage elements with a modern look, celebrating nearly a century of American’s evolution while previewing the airline’s upcoming premium cabin refresh.

The aircraft, to be named “Flagship DFW” in honour of the carrier’s home hub, features the iconic orange lightning bolt motif first seen on the 1930s Douglas DC-3, set against the airline’s signature Silver Eagle® paint. Near the tail, a roundel depicting the eagle connecting the world pays tribute to one of American’s most recognisable historic emblems.

“Painting the original Flagship® design on our Flagship® aircraft is a powerful way to honor that legacy while embracing the future,” said Ron DeFeo, American’s Chief Communications Officer.

The aircraft will be among the first to receive American’s upgraded Flagship Suite® interior in 2026, featuring privacy doors, chaise-style seating, wireless charging, and 4K QLED in-flight screens — part of the airline’s broader effort to modernise its long-haul fleet. The refreshed 777-300s will include 70 Flagship Suite® and 44 Premium Economy seats.

The centennial celebrations also extend beyond the air: American has launched a special Brand Store collection featuring vintage imagery and limited-edition centennial merchandise honouring the airline’s legacy and design heritage.
