American Airlines unveils premium-heavy Boeing 777-300ER cabin

Share

American Airlines has introduced its first retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER, replacing international First Class with a larger Flagship Suite Business cabin.

The redesigned aircraft offers 70 Flagship Suite seats featuring privacy doors, additional storage and a chaise-lounge position. It also includes 44 Premium Economy seats and 30 Main Cabin Extra seats, giving the aircraft 144 premium or extra-legroom seats—more than any aircraft operated by a US airline, according to American.

The first refurbished 777-300ER will enter commercial service between New York JFK and Buenos Aires on 2 September. American operates 20 aircraft of the type on major long-haul routes to destinations including London, Tokyo, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Sydney.

The cabin design follows the premium interiors introduced on American’s Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft. Other upgrades include new inflight-entertainment systems and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi for AAdvantage members, sponsored by AT&T.

Flagship Suite passengers will receive priority airport services, lounge access where available, multicourse meals, upgraded bedding and amenity kits. Premium Economy seats include adjustable calf and foot rests, wireless charging, additional storage and USB-C and AC power.

As the new product is introduced, Flagship First will no longer be sold on the Boeing 777-300ER for travel from 19 November. American will also withdraw First Class from its premium transcontinental routes from 28 March 2027 as more A321XLRs enter service.
