American Airlines has launched its centennial celebrations, marking 100 years since its origins in 1926, when a single mail flight from Chicago to St. Louis laid the foundations for what would become one of the world’s most iconic airline brands. While the official anniversary falls in 2026, customers will begin seeing special commemorative elements starting this month.
As part of the celebrations, American will unveil a special centennial livery on a Boeing 737, paying tribute to the airline’s heritage while symbolising its forward-looking ambitions. The design features silver “infinity rings” near the rear of the aircraft, representing continuity, innovation and the airline’s future potential.
A newly created centennial logo—combining American’s brand identity with an infinity symbol—will appear across the customer journey, including booking platforms, airports, in-flight entertainment screens and merchandise. The logo will also be applied as a decal across American’s fleet of more than 1,500 aircraft, ensuring the milestone is visible on every flight.
Throughout 2026, customers can expect a range of special centennial touches onboard, such as commemorative amenity kits, pajamas and limited-time inflight dining offerings. American has also launched a dedicated centennial microsite, offering insights into the airline’s history, team member stories and exclusive merchandise.
In addition, Citi® / AAdvantage® Mastercard® cardmembers can celebrate with limited-edition credit cards featuring the centennial logo, available for a limited time on new and reissued cards.
With its centennial programme, American Airlines aims not only to honour its first 100 years of innovation and growth, but also to reinforce its commitment to shaping the future of air travel.
