American Airlines will launch seven international routes in 2027, adding Vienna, Porto and Reykjavik to its network while expanding services to several established destinations in Europe and Asia.
All seven new routes will operate daily. Philadelphia will gain three destinations: Porto from 28 March, Vienna from 6 May and Reykjavik from 27 May. The Porto and Vienna flights will use Airbus A321XLR aircraft, while Reykjavik will be served by an A321neo.
American will be the only US airline serving Vienna when the route begins. The extended seasonal service will continue until early January 2028, covering the city’s Christmas-market period. Reykjavik returns to American’s network for the first time since 2019.
From New York JFK, the airline will introduce daily A321XLR services to Amsterdam on 28 March and Nice on 6 May. Amsterdam will complement American’s existing year-round Philadelphia service and seasonal flights from Dallas–Fort Worth.
Charlotte will receive a daily Boeing 777-200ER connection to Barcelona from 27 May, making it American’s sixth US gateway to the Spanish city. Meanwhile, a daily Boeing 787-9 service between Chicago O’Hare and Tokyo Narita will begin on 19 March, offering onward connections through partner Japan Airlines.
American will also reinstate a fourth daily JFK–London Heathrow flight on 28 March, operated by a Boeing 787-9 equipped with Flagship Suite seats. Together with British Airways, the carriers will offer up to 14 daily flights between New York and London.
In addition, the airline will start its returning Charlotte–Paris and Miami–Milan seasonal routes earlier than usual, with both resuming on 4 March 2027.
Tickets for the new services will go on sale on 31 August.
