American Airlines Airbus A330 hit by turbulence; 10 passengers and crew injured

An American Airlines Airbus A330 between Athens and Philadelphia encountered severe turbulence last Sunday, passengers reported that the flight attendants were just serving drinks when the aircraft suddenly dropped.

Everything including the drinks was lifted about 1-2 meters and impacted the cabin ceiling, wetting passengers and cabin crew. One flight attendant has dislodged her shoulder, 3 passengers and 7 cabin crew members were taken to hospitals with injuries.

The captain apologized for the unexpected turbulence, the aircraft made a safe landing at Philadelphia Airport. Ervin Fang, one of the passengers filmed shortly after the turbulence, Jessica Huseman took some pictures of the ceiling.
