Alaska Airlines announces Seattle – Rome route

Share

Alaska Airlines has announced the launch of its first-ever nonstop service between Seattle and Rome. Starting in May 2026, this new route will connect Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) with Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO), providing travelers with direct access to one of Europe’s most iconic cities.

The addition of Rome to Alaska Airlines’ network comes as part of the carrier’s broader initiative to establish Seattle as a premier global gateway, following recent launches of nonstop flights to Tokyo and Seoul.

The Seattle-Rome route will be operated using Alaska Airlines’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, offering passengers a new global experience. This development is particularly meaningful for Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci, who noted, “Serving Rome nonstop from Seattle is a dream come true. As an Italian American whose parents emigrated from Italy, this is a particularly meaningful addition to our network.” The airline anticipates that Rome, consistently among the most-requested destinations by Mileage Plan members, will be a popular addition to its international offerings.

Rome’s central location in Italy makes it an ideal gateway for travelers looking to explore not only the Eternal City but also other major Italian destinations such as Milan, Venice, Florence, and Naples. Additionally, Rome’s Fiumicino Airport provides access to over 230 nonstop destinations across 80 countries, enhancing connectivity for Alaska Airlines passengers. With the upcoming 2025 Jubilee Year, during which Rome has undergone extensive renovations to welcome millions of visitors, the timing of this new route offers travelers an opportunity to experience the city’s rich history and culture during a period of renewed vibrancy.
