Alaska Airlines temporarily grounded all its flights and those of its regional subsidiary Horizon Air on Sunday night due to a major IT outage.
The system-wide ground stop, which began around 22:52 ET, was lifted by 02:00 Monday, but the airline warned of ongoing delays as operations stabilise. Passengers reported being stranded on planes and in terminals for hours, with some facing multiple gate changes. The cause of the outage has not been disclosed.
This marks Alaska Airlines’ second system-related grounding in just over a year, following a similar disruption in April 2024. The airline has apologised for the inconvenience and urged travellers to check flight statuses.
