airBaltic has expanded its fleet with the arrival of its 51st Airbus A220-300. The aircraft, registered YL-BTA, landed in Riga on 1 December 2025 and marks the airline’s second A220 delivery this year.

Since introducing the type, airBaltic’s A220-300 fleet has already transported more than 23 million passengers, completed nearly 241,000 flights, and logged over 530,000 block hours—a remarkable achievement for a single-type operation.

The Latvian carrier has been operating exclusively with the A220-300 since May 2020, a strategy that simplifies crew training, maintenance and scheduling while boosting operational efficiency. The aircraft continues to outperform expectations, delivering lower fuel burn, strong reliability and an improved experience for both passengers and staff.

The A220-300 offers a noticeably more comfortable cabin, with wider seats, larger windows, and more overhead luggage space, complemented by redesigned lavatories. airBaltic is also progressively rolling out free high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi, making it the first airline in Europe to offer the service fleet-wide.

Environmental performance remains another key advantage: the A220-300 produces 25% less CO? and 50% less NOx, while being significantly quieter with a noise footprint twice as small as older-generation jets. With YL-BTA now in service, airBaltic further strengthens its position as one of Europe’s most modern and environmentally efficient airlines.
