airBaltic has launched a new initiative to name its Airbus A220-300 fleet after cities across Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, following a public vote in August 2024. The first three aircraft now bear the names of the Baltic capitals:
The naming contest marked the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way, with over one million votes cast, resulting in a shortlist of 48 cities – 16 from each Baltic nation – matching the airline’s fleet size at the time.
This campaign celebrates Baltic unity and cultural heritage, while also promoting regional tourism and international recognition. airBaltic will continue naming the remaining 45 aircraft gradually, in random order, based on the public’s selections.
VP of Marketing Elina Prave emphasised the airline’s role in boosting the visibility and connectivity of the Baltic States, inspiring both locals and global travellers to explore the region.
