AirAsia X Berhad has officially become AirAsia Group Berhad, marking a major step in the airline group’s strategy to create a more integrated low-cost aviation network across Asia and beyond.
The name change, approved by shareholders at the company’s Annual General Meeting on 25 June 2026 and registered with Malaysia’s Companies Commission effective 2 July 2026, reflects a broader transformation beyond a simple corporate rebranding. The group aims to unite its airline operations under a single structure to improve connectivity, optimise its network and strengthen its competitive position.
AirAsia Group said the move supports its ambition to become the world’s first low-cost network carrier, combining the scale of a larger airline group with the flexibility and affordability that have defined the AirAsia brand.
According to Chairman Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, the new structure will allow the group to better leverage its short- and medium-haul networks, expand growth opportunities and provide more seamless travel experiences for passengers. With a larger fleet, wider route network and stronger regional connectivity, AirAsia Group aims to capitalise on the continued growth of aviation demand in Asia and position itself for long-term expansion.
