London Gatwick has strengthened its role as a leading UK gateway to Africa with the launch of Air Peace’s new direct service to Abuja, Nigeria, which took off on 28 October. The airline will operate three weekly flights from Gatwick’s South Terminal, complementing its daily Lagos service launched in March 2024.
The new route arrives as Gatwick celebrates a record-breaking summer for African travel. In Q3 2025, more than 670,000 passengers flew to 20 African destinations, marking a 9% increase year-on-year and nearly doubling 2019 levels. With Abuja added, the airport now offers direct connections to 21 destinations across Africa, including Nairobi, Entebbe, and Addis Ababa.
Jonathan Pollard, Chief Commercial Officer at London Gatwick, said:
“Air Peace’s growing presence at London Gatwick demonstrates the success of its popular Lagos route and highlights the strong demand for more connections between London and Africa. This new service is a major benefit for the Nigerian diaspora in London and the South East, as well as business and leisure travellers heading to West Africa.”
Nowel Ngala, Chief Commercial Officer at Air Peace, added:
“We’re incredibly proud to expand our UK operations with the Abuja service. This milestone deepens Nigeria–UK connectivity and strengthens trade, tourism, and cultural ties. Passengers can enjoy seamless multi-city connections within Nigeria, generous baggage allowances, competitive fares, and warm Nigerian hospitality.”
With its growing African network, London Gatwick now connects passengers directly to 21 destinations across the continent, reinforcing its position as a key hub for international trade, tourism, and diaspora travel.
