Air New Zealand has confirmed that its much-anticipated Economy Skynest™ will go on sale from 18 May 2026, marking a major step forward in long-haul travel comfort.
The innovative product, set to debut on the airline’s new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet from November 2026, features six lie-flat sleeping pods arranged in a bunk-style layout between the Economy and Premium Economy cabins.
Designed for ultra long-haul routes to and from New Zealand, Skynest allows Economy and Premium Economy passengers to book a dedicated four-hour rest session. Each pod includes a full-length mattress, fresh bedding, privacy curtain, ambient lighting, ventilation, and charging ports, offering passengers the chance to properly rest during long journeys.
CEO Nikhil Ravishankar said the concept reflects the airline’s focus on innovation and improving the passenger experience, particularly given New Zealand’s geographic remoteness.
Initially, two Skynest sessions will be available per flight, with pricing starting from NZD 495 (around €250) per session. The product has been developed and tested over several years, involving more than 200 customers.
Skynest builds on the success of Air New Zealand’s Skycouch and represents a new approach to long-haul travel, giving passengers greater flexibility, comfort, and control over their journey.
