Air India orders crew to end every speech with “Jai Hind” – ?? ????? – “Long Live India”

Share

India’s national airline Air India has told its crew members to end every in-flight announcement with the patriotic phrase, “Jai Hind”. The salutation, slogan and battle cry is most commonly used in India in speeches and communications pertaining to or referring to patriotism towards the country. It translates roughly to “Hail India” or “Victory to India” or “Long live India”.

In an internal memo, the airline addresses its crew members: “All crew, with immediate effect, all are required to announce “Jai Hind” at the end of every announcement after a slight pause and with much fervour.” Signed, captain and director of operations Amitabh Singh.

Recently, there is a rise of patriotism in the country after the recent clash with neighboring Pakistan. On 14 February 2019, a suicide terror attack was conducted in India by a Pakistani based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), leading to the death of 40 jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Shortly after the news became public, people started making jokes on the new procedure.
