Air India captain suspended for allegedly shoplifting a wallet in Sydney

An Air India captain has been suspended by his airline as he allegedly shoplifted a wallet from a duty free shop at Sydney Airport on Saturday, 22 June. The crew was to operate flight AI301 to Delhi on a Boeing 787 (VT-ANZ). 

The suspension order stated: “Without prejudice to any disciplinary action to be initiated against you and pending inquiry, you are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect.

“You will not enter the premises of Air India, you will not leave your station (Kolkata) and you will not engage yourself in any employment or avocation.
