Air India has placed an order for 30 additional Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, comprising 20 737-8s and 10 737-10s, further strengthening its single-aisle fleet as it expands domestic and regional operations. Announced at the Wings India 2026 airshow in Hyderabad, the deal lifts Air India’s total Boeing order book to nearly 200 aircraft across narrowbody and widebody families.
The new aircraft, secured through exercised purchase options, will support high-frequency routes in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets. Air India plans to deploy the 737-8 for flexibility and efficiency on short-haul routes, while the larger 737-10 will provide higher capacity and the lowest cost per seat among single-aisle aircraft. Boeing said the order reflects the strong performance of Air India’s existing 737 MAX fleet and underlines the long-term growth potential of the Indian and South Asian aviation market.
