Air Greenland to launch direct Ilulissat–Copenhagen winter route from October 2026

Share

Air Greenland will introduce a new direct winter route between Ilulissat and Copenhagen starting 29 October 2026, coinciding with the opening of the new airport in Ilulissat. The airline’s Airbus A330neo Tuukkaq will operate the inaugural flight.

Following launch, operations will temporarily be conducted by Jettime using a Boeing 737-800 (180 seats) until spring 2027, when Air Greenland takes delivery of its new Airbus A320neo, Unaaq, which will assume responsibility for the route.

Schedule and frequencies

  • Weekly direct service: One nonstop flight every Wednesday between Ilulissat and Copenhagen.
  • Peak winter increase: Two weekly departures (Mondays and Wednesdays) during Christmas/New Year and from 1–27 March 2027.
  • Via Nuuk connections: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, passengers can travel via Nuuk with onward connections to Copenhagen.
  • Regional connectivity in North Greenland

The winter schedule is structured to maintain access across North Greenland:

  • Aasiaat: Same-day connections from Copenhagen on Wednesdays.
  • Uummannaq and Qaarsut: Same-day connections from Copenhagen on Mondays (from 1 March).
  • Upernavik: Same-day connections from Copenhagen on Wednesdays; outbound travellers to Copenhagen must overnight in Ilulissat.
  • Qaanaaq: No same-day Copenhagen connection. The Ilulissat–Upernavik–Qaanaaq service operates Tuesdays, requiring overnight stays in Ilulissat in both directions.

From spring 2027, the A320neo Unaaq will also operate the Nuuk–Copenhagen route, with final scheduling details to be confirmed later.

The new Ilulissat–Copenhagen service strengthens direct access to North Greenland, supporting tourism, business travel and regional connectivity. Ticket sales are now open via Air Greenland’s booking channels and Club Timmisa.
