Transavia to fly from Brussels Airport with 2 Boeing 737 from Summer 2020

On 19 November 2019, Transavia announced in Dutch newspaper “De Telegraaf” its intention to fly from Brussels Airport.

Transavia is a low-cost subsidiary of Air France-KLM that serves holiday destinations throughout Europe. The airline is going to fly from Brussels Airport with two Boeing 737 based in Belgium as of Summer 2020.

It is a consequence of Schiphol slot restrictions, and due to not yet opened Lelystad Airport. The airline also revealed that it carries many passengers from Belgium at Eindhoven Airport, and decided to rise the capacity from that country, said a spokesperson.

“We do not set up a base there, but will visit Brussels in our daily rotations from Amsterdam Schiphol. In addition, Transavia is a well-known brand in the Dutch market. There will probably be a few destinations around the Mediterranean Sea”, the airline added.

The company explicitly does not intend to fly between the Netherlands and Belgium. Destinations are to be unveiled next week.

In 2016, Transavia intended to fly to Brussels Airport from its Munich base which has been abandoned since then. The flights never started in the wake of the terror attacks of 22 March 2016 at Brussels Airport.
