KLM’s first Airbus A350-900 has operated its inaugural passenger flight from Amsterdam Schiphol to Toronto. Named De Nachtwacht (“The Night Watch”), the aircraft departed as flight KL691 with passengers and eight tonnes of cargo aboard.
The inaugural attracted aviation enthusiasts who booked specifically for the occasion, including two passengers wearing specially printed T-shirts and a father and son who travelled from New York to join the flight.
The A350’s introduction forms part of KLM’s fleet-renewal programme, which the airline says aims to reduce fuel consumption, emissions and noise. Following Toronto, planned destinations for the aircraft include Montreal, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi and Zanzibar.
