KLM traffic growth declined slightly in March, owing to operational disruptions caused by malfunctions and adverse weather at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. KLM welcomed 1.2% fewer passengers on board in March than it did in the same month last year. With revenue passenger kilometres down 2.4% and capacity down 0.8%, load factor declined by 1.5%pt.

As a result of the slight decline of KLM’s traffic results in March, KLM’s traffic results as a whole in the first quarter of 2019 also declined slightly. We did welcome 0.4% more passengers on board in the first quarter than we did during the same period last year. With revenue passenger kilometres down 1.0% and available seat kilometres down 0.3%, load factor declined by 0.6%pt in the first quarter.

“As a result of the slight decline in March, the first Quarter of 2019 also showed a slight decline of the KLM traffic results. Growth came mainly from destinations in Central and South America. Our results for the first quarter are driven mainly by capacity restrictions at Schiphol and poor weather conditions. To ensure the continued development of the KLM network, we will keep striving for moderate and controlled growth, in balance with environmental considerations.”
