KLM and the Dutch pilots’ union VNV have reached a preliminary agreement aimed at improving the airline’s operational capacity and financial stability. The deal will enable KLM to operate over 10,000 additional flights, mainly by requiring pilots to work one extra day per month in summer 2026 and one additional weekend day per quarter.

Key points include:

  • Enhanced pilot training flexibility, including scheduling simulator sessions on weekends.
  • Temporary staffing measures to bridge gaps until full pilot capacity is reached.
  • Increased revenue from added flights, supporting KLM’s financial recovery under its “Back-on-Track” program.
  • Pilots will be appropriately compensated, including permanent access to an annual discounted travel scheme.
  • Support for the introduction of the Airbus A350, including tailored rest area upgrades for tall pilots.

The agreement reflects a mutual commitment to KLM’s future and will be submitted to VNV members for approval in September.
