KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Boeing 747-400 returns to Toronto, Canada: landing gear didn’t fully retract

On 12 February, a KLM Boeing 747-400 (PH-BFN) was departing Toronto, Canada for flight KL692 to Amsterdam Schiphol. The pilots, however, reported a landing gear issue during climb-out: the gear didn’t fully retract.

Thirty minutes into the flight, the decision was made to head back to Toronto, where the aircraft safely landed around two hours after initial take-off. During the first approach, the pilots were not happy with the runway surface conditions (*) (Tom Podolec) hence a second approach was made.

(*) Heavy snowfall, ice pellets & high winds in Southern Ontario & Canadian/US Eastern seaboards are affecting airport operations, leading to cancellations & delays.
