At the start of May, Air France’s newest Boeing 787-9 rolled out of the Boeing factory in Seattle, but didn’t perform any commercial duties yet. Air France is considering to lease the aircraft to competitor Air Austral, in order to avoid a further monthly loss of €2,5 million.
The airline is also looking into the possibilities to delay all future Boeing 787-9 deliveries due to lack of instructors to train their Boeing 777 pilots for the new aircraft. An agreement on pilot training ended on 30 April 2018, and a new agreement couldn’t be reached yet due to the current social climate.
In a statement Air France strongly denounced the current crisis, the new 787-9 aircraft supposed to be a symbol of the “new Air France“, but unfortunately turned into a symbol of the “social malaise“.
