Air France issued the following customer notification after an isolated instance of listeria detected in a sandwich available from self-service aboard some flights 21-24 May 2019

During the course of quality-check procedures conducted on foodstuffs distributed aboard Air France flights, Servair, supplier of the airline’s onboard catering service, reported that Listeria had been detected in a tuna sandwich available from self-service (onboard buffets).

This sandwich was distributed in the Economy and Premium Economy cabins of 9 long-haul flights departing Paris Orly and Paris Charles de Gaulle (full list below) between 21 and 24 May 2019. As soon as this was reported, Servair withdrew all products from the provider in question (Air Food) from the services on board Air France flights.

Air France informed its customers by email, through the press and on its own website. To date, neither Air France nor Servair has been informed of a known case.

As a precautionary measure and only if they develop a fever, whether isolated or accompanied by a headache, Air France recommends that any customers who were aboard the flights in question and who believe they ate that sandwich should inform their doctor of the situation. In particular, pregnant women, older people and those suffering from an immunodeficiency should look out for those symptoms, which could indicate listeriosis, a disease with an incubation period of up to eight weeks.

Air France and Servair are making a helpline available to customers who were on those flights at 0800 091 091 from France (+33 1 44 18 06 92 from abroad); it is open 08:00 to 22:00, Paris time.

Air France apologises to the affected customers. Its customer services teams are fully at disposal to offer information and support, and can be reached through the normal channels (www.airfrance.com, “Contact us” section).

Air France reminds that food safety is a priority and is subject to strict and daily controls, certified by the ISO 22000 standard.
