For the 11th consecutive year, Air France-KLM has been listed as No. 1 in the airline industry on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI)*, the most important international index assessing the performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide.
“It’s an exceptional achievement, succeeding in maintaining our leading position for so long. It confirms not only that we assume responsibility as an employer, but also pursue innovation and take our responsibility with regard to the environment and society seriously. KLM has an established track record proving this. KLM is in a constant state of flux in relation to the environment and society. Several concrete long-term objectives have been formulated for a number of themes. One of these is the ‘Smart Energy’ programme aiming to achieve a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2020. Over and above investing in more fuel-efficient aircraft and integrating lighter construction materials on board, using biofuel is one of the ways to achieve this target. We cooperate closely with suppliers and other parties to contribute towards the use of sustainable materials and resources throughout the value chain.”
Pieter Elbers – KLM President & CEO
Additionally, for the 7th consecutive year, Air France-KLM has maintained its position as Industry Group Leader in the broader transportation sector, embracing air, rail, sea and road transportation as well as airport operations.
In all its endeavours, Air France-KLM continually strives to make aviation more sustainable. KLM focuses on several areas, one of which is to reduce environmental impact. Integrating sustainable development in its products and services and pursuing responsible HR policy also contributes towards achieving this objective.
