Air Europa will expand its long-haul network with the launch of a new route between Madrid and Johannesburg, with the first flight scheduled for 24 June 2026. The airline has already opened sales for the service, which will operate three times weekly—on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays—using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
Departing Madrid-Barajas at 15:05, the new service marks Air Europa’s entry into the South African market and strengthens its presence on the African continent. Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport is the leading air hub in Africa, offering extensive onward connectivity across Southern Africa, including destinations such as Namibia and Botswana, while also serving as a key centre for business travel in sectors including mining, energy, infrastructure and finance.
With this addition, Air Europa will operate four African routes in summer 2026. Alongside Johannesburg, the airline will resume services to Marrakech and Tunis and launch flights to Tangier for the first time. The African expansion forms part of a broader network growth plan that also includes a new Geneva route, increased European frequencies and further development of the airline’s domestic network.
