Air China A330 returns to Hong Kong with “full emergency” after smell of smoke #CA110

On 7 June an Air China Airbus A330 from Hong Kong to Beijing returned to Hong Kong shortly after take-off, less then 5 minutes after take off crew and passengers noticed a scorched smell and smoke in the back of the plane.

The captain of the Airbus A330-300 (B-5912) informed the passengers of a mechanical breakdown.

The airport prepared for a “full emergency” with 21 fire and ambulances rushing to the runway. Fortunately, the aircraft landed safely at 8:53 in the evening and no serious accident occurred.

About eight hours later the aircraft departed for a normal flight to its destination Beijing.
