Engine failure on Air Caraïbes ATR 72-600 fills cabin with thick smoke

Share

On 25 May, an Air Caraïbes ATR 72-600 (F-OIXL) operating flight TX421 from Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic left Guadeloupe but 20 minutes into the flight, the left hand engine (PW127) emitted a loud bang and failed prompting the crew to shut the engine down. Smoke developed in the cabin, causing some panic in the cabin. The pilots decided to turn around and returned to Pointe-a-Pitre for a safe landing.

All 67 passengers safely and “healthily” left the aircraft, the airline grounded the aircraft.
