August 2025 is shaping up to be a record-breaking month for transatlantic travel between Europe and Canada, according to new data from aviation analytics firm Cirium. A total of 4,276 one-way flights are scheduled between the two regions this month—the highest on record, offering over 1.2 million seats.
The figures reflect a significant surge in demand, with flights up 5% compared to August 2024 and 14% above pre-pandemic levels in August 2019. Over the past decade, the growth is even more striking: Europe–Canada flight volumes have increased by more than 40% since 2015.
Driving this boom is the rising popularity of Canada among European holidaymakers seeking long-haul getaways, while more Canadians are also flocking to Europe for summer travel.
Air Canada, the country’s flag carrier, has been at the forefront of this expansion. The airline has added 112 additional flights from Europe this month alone—amounting to more than 34,500 extra seats—and now operates over a third of all scheduled flights on the transatlantic corridor. Its August schedule is 8% larger than last year’s peak.
The airline has also launched five new routes between Europe and Canada this summer:
Among departure cities, Athens leads the growth, with a 63% year-on-year increase in flights to Canada, followed by Edinburgh (+45%) and Madrid (+35%).
As travel between Europe and Canada continues to soar, industry observers note the trend as a sign of deepening cross-Atlantic ties—and a strong rebound for long-haul aviation.
