Air Canada has announced the launch of its first-ever winter seasonal service to Sapporo, Japan, introducing the only non-stop air link between North America and Hokkaido. The new route will operate three times weekly from Vancouver (YVR) starting December 2026 through March 2027, using Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
The service strengthens Vancouver’s role as North America’s second-largest Pacific gateway and further expands Air Canada’s position as the airline with the most non-stop destinations to Japan from the North American mainland. It targets strong demand for premium leisure travel, giving passengers direct access to Hokkaido’s renowned powder snow, the Sapporo Snow Festival, hot springs, and regional cuisine.
By leveraging Vancouver’s geographic proximity, the flights will offer the fastest travel option to Sapporo, cutting journey times by more than two hours each way. For travellers from Japan, the route provides the quickest non-stop access to North America, with onward connections to more than 45 destinations across Canada, the United States, and Mexico via Air Canada’s YVR hub.
The seasonal Sapporo service complements Air Canada’s existing Japan network, which includes year-round flights to Tokyo (Narita and Haneda) and summer seasonal service to Osaka. Tickets are already on sale, with cabins offered in Signature Class, Premium Economy, and Economy.
