Air Belgium is announcing its involvement as official co-sponsor of Belgian skipper Thibault Raymakers in the legendary Mini-Transat race, the solo sailing event from La Rochelle to Martinique taking place in October 2019.
The greatest sailors have made their mark by taking part in Mini-Transat. This is a demanding and technical old-style race, held on small, uncomfortable boats with very limited technical capabilities. The competition demands a great deal of courage, endurance and tenacity from its participants.
The event was not chosen at random. Sponsoring this race is in line with the company’s desire to promote Belgium in the Antilles and coincides perfectly with Air Belgium’s first flight scheduled to arrive two weeks after the end of the race.
Niky Terzakis, CEO of Air Belgium, comments: “It is perfectly logical for our company to support Thibault in this adventure. He is, in a manner of speaking, our trailblazer by pre-empting our route to Martinique in the very near future. Thibault is an engaging personality, who represents our country very well. He has boundless energy, an unwavering enthusiasm, a strong sense of humour and obvious courage. He is the ambassador of choice for both Belgium and our airline. Sailing as a sport also represents values shared by Air Belgium. We are proud to see our brand displayed so well on the sails of BEL 891.”
Thibault Raymakers, comments: “I am delighted to be boarding Air Belgium flight BEL 891. Crossing the Atlantic on a 6.5m boat requires tenacity, which is clearly a core value I share with their teams. To be the first to make the colours of Air Belgium sparkle in Martinique is a great honour for me”.
In fact, from 7 December to 29 April, Air Belgium will be operating two direct flights per week to Fort-de-France on Martinique, where water sport and sailing enthusiasts can enjoy the warm climate and crystal clear waters around the French Antilles.
