Atlas Air Worldwide has completed its previously announced strategic investment in Icelandic ACMI and charter operator Air Atlanta, strengthening its global widebody operations through a long-term partnership between the two companies.
Under the agreement, Atlas has acquired a 49% minority stake in Air Atlanta. In addition, Titan Aviation Holdings, Atlas Air Worldwide’s aircraft leasing subsidiary, has purchased the aircraft owned by the Air Atlanta group and entered into a long-term lease agreement under which Air Atlanta will continue to operate the fleet.
Atlas said the transaction expands its global operating platform and increases access to widebody aircraft capacity across key international markets, further strengthening its ACMI and charter capabilities.
“We are pleased to complete our previously announced strategic investment in Air Atlanta and welcome the Air Atlanta team as a valued strategic partner,” said Michael Steen, Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Air Worldwide. “This milestone reflects our shared commitment to delivering exceptional service to customers and supporting the long-term success of both organisations.“
Air Atlanta Chief Executive Officer Baldvin M. Hermannsson described the deal as the beginning of a new phase for the Icelandic carrier.
“This strategic relationship marks an exciting new chapter for Air Atlanta. Together with Atlas, we are well positioned to build on our complementary strengths, expand opportunities and enhance value for our customers,” he said.
The partnership combines Atlas Air’s global cargo and charter expertise with Air Atlanta’s long-established experience in widebody ACMI operations. By retaining operational control of its aircraft while benefiting from Atlas’ financial backing and global reach, Air Atlanta is expected to strengthen its position in the international wet-lease market.
The transaction was first announced earlier this year and has now been completed following the necessary regulatory and commercial processes. Financial terms beyond the acquisition of the 49% stake were not disclosed.
