Share

Air Algérie has confirmed the acquisition of 10 new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, marking a further step in its ongoing fleet renewal and expansion strategy.

The airline announced that five aircraft will be delivered in 2026, starting in July, with the remaining five scheduled for 2027. The order reinforces earlier reports and forms part of a broader effort to modernise operations and enhance competitiveness.

Fleet Modernisation Strategy

According to the airline, the new aircraft will support:

  • Network expansion across domestic and international markets
  • Improved operational efficiency and reliability
  • Enhanced passenger comfort and onboard experience

The move is aligned with a long-term vision to strengthen the airline’s position in increasingly competitive regional and global markets.

Continued Expansion Momentum

Air Algérie’s fleet renewal has been gaining pace:

  • First delivery of the Airbus A330neo in November 2024
  • Additional A330neo aircraft added in January 2025
  • Seven more A330neos expected to be delivered in the near term

These widebody additions have already enabled the airline to expand into Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, broadening its long-haul footprint.

Long-Term Outlook

The airline aims to exceed 100 aircraft in its fleet over the long term, signalling an ambitious growth trajectory. The combination of new-generation narrowbody and widebody aircraft positions Air Algérie to:

  • Increase frequencies on high-demand routes
  • Open new destinations
  • Compete more effectively with regional and international carriers

Bottom Line

The Boeing 737 MAX 8 order represents a strategic continuation of Air Algérie’s transformation, balancing capacity growth with efficiency gains. Together with its A330neo programme, the airline is building a modern, scalable fleet designed to support sustained network expansion and improved service quality.
