Venezuelan airline Aeropostal ceased commercial operations in the country after 88 years of service with the last flight from Caracas to Porlamar, due to the expiration of flight hours of its only operational aircraft, a McDonnell Douglas MD-82.
Aeropostal had already ceased operations in 1994 and then resumed them in 1997 as a private company until in 2011 it was nationalized by then-President Hugo Chávez.
“For now we are canceled for operational reasons until further notice,”
a worker from the state-owned company confirmed to newspaper El Universal, who without much detail indicated that only “protection” is being given to passengers who already have tickets purchased with destination to Panama round trip.
