Aeroitalia will officially change its name to Air Italy and adopt a new branding following a court ruling in favour of ITA Airways, which argued the brand and logo were too similar to Alitalia’s.
Judges ordered the rebrand by January 1, 2026, but CEO Gaetano Intrieri says the timeline is unrealistic, with the first aircraft in new livery expected by March 2026.
While the naming dispute is settled, a second battle looms over Milan Linate airport slots. Aeroitalia plans to file complaints with Italian and EU regulators, questioning ITA’s dominant position and rights to Alitalia’s former slots. Negotiations between the two airlines have so far failed, and legal proceedings continue.
