[Pictures] First Pobeda flight from Moscow Vnukovo lands at Ostend-Bruges Airport

On 7 March, low-cost airline Pobeda – part of the Aeroflot Group – landed for the first time at Ostend-Bruges Airport with a Boeing 737-800 (VP-BQG) on flight DP903. The airport close to the North Sea is Pobeda’s first Belgian destination and has many opportunities: close to Bruges and the closest destination to France.

Andrey Kalmykov, the CEO of Pobeda looks positive towards to the three weekly flights. On the first flight, the airline already welcomed 182 (DP903 inbound) and 105 (DP904 outbound) passengers.

Flights will operate three times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Bruges has long been fond of experienced travellers for its medieval beauty and is considered the chocolate capital of Belgium. The city offers an amazing palette of a mixture of history, art, gastronomy and the maritime atmosphere. From here it is very convenient to get by land to Ghent, Brussels, Antwerp, to the northeast of France and even to Paris.

About 38% of the Pobeda destinations are unique destinations where there was no direct flight connection before. The flight Moscow Vnukovo – Bruges (Ostend) is among the unique routes.

The Pobeda airline fleet consists only of modern Boeing 737-800 aircraft delivered directly from the manufacturing plant. The company’s fleet has 24 new aircraft.

For Ostend-Bruges Airport, this is a special expansion of the existing offer, as this is an airline that is entering the Belgian market for the first time.

Marcel Buelens, CEO of the Ostend-Bruges and Antwerp Airports, welcomes the new route: “The new scheduled service is great news for our airport, but certainly also for the region. The tourist sector in Flanders will undoubtedly benefit from this by the flights that make both a short and a long stay possible. In addition to the Belgian public, we also take into account a potential increase of foreign users of our airport due to its favourable location in relation to, for example, North France and South West Netherlands.”
