BOC Aviation has placed its largest-ever order with Pratt & Whitney, committing to up to 220 GTF (Geared Turbofan) engines to power as many as 110 Airbus A320neo family aircraft. The order was announced at the Farnborough International Airshow.
The deal marks a continuation of the companies’ 29-year partnership. BOC Aviation said the GTF engine’s lower fuel consumption will improve the efficiency of its future fleet, while Pratt & Whitney described the order as a strong vote of confidence in the engine amid growing demand for new-generation single-aisle aircraft.
The GTF engine delivers 20% lower fuel burn and a 75% smaller noise footprint compared with previous-generation engines. More than 2,800 GTF-powered aircraft are currently in service with over 90 operators worldwide, while the programme’s backlog exceeds 8,000 engines. Pratt & Whitney said the engine’s geared architecture also provides a platform for future propulsion technologies.
